South West Printmakers are happy to present their latest exhibition, entitled Wish You Were Here which will open at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries on Friday 6 November at 7pm. All are welcome to attend.

The exhibition consists of new print media works and the group’s annual print exchange which this year explores the format of the postcard.

“As a universally accepted form of communication, the postcard is bound in both friendship and the notion of space and place, this print share has undoubtedly been a journey in itself. Over the past few months, as each treasure has dropped unexpectedly into our lives, one cannot understate the joy and delight at receiving these individual postcards and their messages of humour and goodwill. We hope you will enjoy them as much as we have.”  South West Printmakers 2009.

Bunbury Regional Art Galleries is situated at 64 Wittenoom Street, Bunbury and is open daily from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free. Wish You Were Here will run until 10 January 2010.

It was a big night at the City of Swan’s Art Awards with a record number of entries and a turn out to match.

PAWA members were well represented among the entrants but the print excitement of the event goes to Hannah Jackson, a young printmaker, who received the Local Artist Award for her silkscreen  Graffiti. The judges remarked in their comments that Graffiti “shows a variety and confidence in the printmaking technique – an artform that needs a rebirth. This artwork doesn’t hide the traditions of printmaking and is a lovely clean image.” Well done Hannah.

PAWA members showing prints included Rosemary Mostyn with a collagraph titled Sands of Time IV; Shelley Cowper with her etching Dissecting the Landscape and Patricia Cox. Other media shown by our members Aloma Berg is showing an encaustic painting called Salmon Gums, Willemina Foeken with a pastel titled Banksias & Kangaroo Paws, while a newer member Denise Brown is showing an untitled charcoal drawing. Amanda Williams assisted Janis Nedela with curation and also spoke about the curating on opening night.

The City of Swan Awards exhibition run until 8th November at the Midland Town Hall.
Opening times: 10am to 4pm daily.
